东亚研究

The 东亚研究 program offers an interdisciplinary study of the area, with a primary focus on the countries of China and 日本. Under special advisement, 韩国和蒙古 are also subjects for study.

Western’s 东亚研究 program has faculty from a broad spectrum of academic departments who work together to provide a nexus f或教学 and research.

Three major objectives

The program is designed to attain three major objectives. 第一个, it offers students an opportunity to acquire accurate, 详细的, and comprehensive knowledge of a region that is becoming increasingly important in world affairs. 第二个, it prepares students who are attracted by job opportunities related to East Asia in business, 政府, 或教学. 第三, it provides solid undergraduate training for students who plan to enter East Asian programs in their graduate studies.

Western’s 东亚研究 Department is part of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Students in the 东亚研究 program are eligible for a number of scholarships that promote the study of Inner Asia and East Asia, including the Henry G. Schwarz Scholarship in Mongolian Studies ($1,000), the Sarah Anne Wirth Scholarship in 东亚研究 and 历史 ($1,000)), and the Diana Wright 研究 Paper in 东亚研究 Award.

The East Asia Studies Department hosts the Annual Student Colloquium Program, along with national and international conferences on 日本 literature and East Asian studies. The Center for 东亚研究 sponsors lectures, 演讲, and other activities related to East Asia for both students and the community.

Western 库 features the 蒙古集合, an extensive collection of holdings on Mongolia and Inner Asia. 

This major offers students an opportunity to prepare for positions in cultural organizations, 外交办公室, companies engaged in international business, and in educational institutions.
